Mr W's Island and essential items

Kia ora Kererū Kids,

What another magnificent day we are having with the sunny weather!

The five Mr W essential items I have selected are:

  1. Mountain bike
  2. Rugby ball
  3. Basketball
  4. Fishing rod that can double as a spear or trekking pole
  5. Sun-Apple phone.
I've chosen these because, as you can see, my island is rather hilly on this side of the island so a mountain bike will make for great transport around the island.

I reckon you just can't go anywhere in the world without an oval ball and a round ball (which can double as a soccer ball, basketball, volleyball, dodge ball ball etc . . . as you can see, the list is almost endless!!!)

The fishing rod so I can catch fish or spear my food and last, but by no means the least, I have my recently released Sun-Apple phone. This rather nifty device is my all-in-one means of communication with the outside world and is solar powered! (The marketing people at Sun-Apple also said it can also charge when you are talking on it, but I haven't tried that out yet).

As you can see below, my method of transport to the island was my seaworthy kayak.

Can you spot the rolling waves on the far left of the island?

Me fishing on the island with my 5 essential items all near by.

I got a bit of a fright when I dipped my toe in the water and I think either a shark or a stingray had a wee nibble!

  1. Hi Mr Walkinshaw, what an awesome Island you have! It looks like you've got lots to keep you entertained.

Wondered if you have wifi on your island? Will you join the google meet today from your island or will you have to paddle back to your home?

    1. Hi Mrs Walker, yes I did paddle back from the island but I got rather wet from the rolling waves breaking over the front of my kayak. I was running a little late so I didn't have time for a shower before the Google Meet, and it was a bit annoying tasting all the salt water on my lips!

I don't have to worry about wifi on the island because these latest edition Sun-Apple phones have a special built in sensor to pick up wifi internet signals from anywhere you are in the world.
It makes my phone a messenger, a watch, a book, a newspaper, a camera, a compass, an encyclopedia, a calendar, a computer, a radio, a TV, and a heap of other things. And . . . I can even use it as a phone and talk to people! The only thing it doesn't seem to do is Facebook, but that's okay because I'm not not Facebook anyway!

  2. Mr W! I hope you make it off your island for the Google Meet today? If not stay safe!

    1. Hi Mr G, as you know, I did turn up for the Google Meet after paddling back from the island.
What you don't know though, because you couldn't see it on screen, I was all wet and saturated from the rolling waves!
Now that we've finished the Google Meets I'm heading off for a shower.
I'll see you tomorrow at the Google Meet Quiz..

  3. Hi Mr W
I am so pleased that you did make it off the island for our Google Meet today, it just would not have been the same without you. I certainly hope it was not a shark so close to your island that would be quite scary. I am wondering what sort of fish you would want to catch for dinner tonight?

    1. Hi Petra - I'm hoping to catch a Blue Cod because they are one of my favourite fish to eat.

    1. Hi Sophia,
Thank you for your kind comment about my island looking cool and lots of fun.
It didn't take too long to build and my 7 year old grandson James helped me, until he had to go off for a Google Meet with the teachers from his school. Once he went inside though, the wind started to blow and I had to find some things to weigh the tarpaulins down with around the edges, so that took a little bit longer.

Also, I would suggest you take a look at the colour of my kayak in the photos - you never know, there could be a question about it in today's Google Meet Hangout this afternoon.
      Hope to see you there.
      Have a great day.
      Mr W.
